A lower price is a measurable saving.
When the tier, service period, currency and offer route match, the difference is useful. The date matters too: a sale can return to an older price without being an all-time low.
A longer plan is a different decision.
PureVPN’s five-year option spreads the cost over a longer commitment. We show its monthly equivalent, but do not call it a price cut when our earlier captures did not contain the same plan.
Bonus months count.
PureVPN Standard changed from 16 months in our Oct 23, 2026 capture to 12 months now. Paying the same total for fewer months is not a new saving.

How to choose a VPN deal
Choose the service, then the term.
VPN-only and privacy bundles solve different needs. A bundle is worth more only if you will use the extra products. A low monthly equivalent is less useful if you stop using the VPN early.
Read the renewal as a separate bill.
A two-year introductory plan can renew annually. Compare both the amount and the billing interval, and note any amount the provider has not disclosed.
Use the refund period properly.
Test your own devices, locations and services early. Read the refund conditions and cancellation steps before the request deadline. A provider’s refund policy has limits.

How we measure a real reduction
“Recorded reduction” compares the current upfront price with a dated earlier capture for the same tier, paid term, bonus months, US market, USD currency and offer route. It is not the percentage against a provider’s monthly list price, a 30-day lowest-price claim, or a prediction of later prices.
A verified move of the same partner page can preserve a comparison when the captured offer evidence matches. Proton Unlimited has a separately reviewed comparison against its retained standard annual price for the same 12-month service period. Its saving is labeled as being against the earlier standard annual offer. New plans, changed durations and missing earlier observations are labeled separately.

Why is the recorded reduction smaller than the advertised discount?
A provider may compare a multi-year deal with paying its regular monthly rate for that entire period. We compare the same named tier, currency, market and service period with an earlier recorded offer. Those calculations answer different questions.
Is the cheapest monthly equivalent always the best deal?
No. A five-year plan can have the lowest monthly equivalent while requiring more money upfront and a much longer commitment. Compare the full payment with how long you expect to use the service, then check the renewal bill.
