Security and VPN provider details change over time

A VPN can bypass a block imposed by the network you are using when it can first reach a VPN server. It usually handles DNS filtering and destination IP blocks. A network does not need to read the contents of an HTTPS page to stop a connection. It can act on information exposed before encryption starts, on traffic patterns, or on a list of known addresses.

On an unmanaged personal device, the company network can usually see the VPN connection and its timing but not the websites inside the tunnel. On a managed device, monitoring software, browser policies, or installed certificates may still expose activity. Assume company-owned hardware is monitored.
